Multi Purpose Usage of Drinking Water in Chennai City

Water – Liquid Diamond to us is undoubtedly the most precious natural resource that exists on our planet and is essential for everything. The lack of water quality and sanitation is the primary reason for various ailments and spread of diseases. India is one of the few countries in the world where the cities consume as much as 200 liters per capita per day of water. It goes without saying that most of it is wasted, used for cleaning toilets, washing cars and maintaining gardens. In Chennai city much of the ill health is largely due to lack of safe drinking water. There can be no state of positive community health and well being without safe water supply. Based on the present estimates, the focus of this study is the development and implementation of water safety methods.To explore the sources of drinking water, measure consumption, analyze the usage methods, suggest water protection solutions and storage of water in Chennai city. Primary data were collected from 400 people by using Random sampling method. Percentage Method and Simple Statistical Method was used for calculation and preparing the diagrams. The Result reveals that 45.3 per cent of the children health are mostly affected in a family. Since drinking water is used predominantly for drinking and cooking. Among them, only 22.3 per cent of the people use boiled drinking water. Stored water is used by 96.5 per cent of the study population in Kudams (canister) and drums. The study shows that most family use improper wastewater disposal methods. Intake of unsafely stored water is the main cause of vector borne diseases. The water needed for human consumption should be safe and wholesome. Water should not harm the consumer and should be potable. Drinking water should be free from pathogens, not have more than 80-100 spm, pleasant to taste, and completely usable for domestic purpose.
